[ 01.30.04 / 09:28 A EST] happy birthday sara markey!

good morning!

last night was the SCHWERVON! cd release. in the front room at galapagos! so much FUN. the stage in that room is so cool.. all high up and shallow, like a theater. the curtain swept shut at the end of each act. each band, that is. the leader played first (that's julie's band, she plays bass in kansas state flower too). they are my newest favorite band. then jeff lewis and his ensemble. who were of course wonderful, but the outstanding moment was when jeff played a song alone. the one about will oldham! then i shoved my way up front just in time for the screening of the new schwervon VIDEO for the song Dinner. it was classic nan and matt awesome cute and fun-ness! and gummo the cat made an appearance! i shrieked when his little face came on the screen and nan heard me.

then they came onstage and played all of the songs from the new album, Poseur, and me and dan fishback and his friend chris and some other people danced it up the whole way through. i wish more people were dancing around us because i kept jumping on people's feet. then i went and took some pictures.

[ 01.29.04 / 02:04 P EST] there was something in the water

today the sun shined through a cloud in such a way that all of 7th avenue lit up like a photography studio.

i should know, i was out doing an errand for shirley.

tonight: schwervon! at galapagos. it's their CD RELEASE PARTY. you ought to be there! i'm going at 7:30.

new favorite web site: miranda july, the lady genius. i love her. thanks for tipping me off to the site, josh.

also from that site i linked to this place called synthetic zero, which appears to be based out of the south bronx artist lofts (my future neighbors!) i want to attend the event listed here next week. want to go?

[ 01.28.04 / 06:03 P EST] percy bass is a stuffed pig

not a single soul emailed me today

and when i got home, i got one because i'm on the rasputina mailing list.

thanks melora!

in a half hour:

The WNYC Young People's Radio Chorus will sing live on SOUNDCHECK with John Schaefer on 93.9FM at 2:00PM (EST) on Wednesday, January 28th. It is the first-ever resident chorus, young or otherwise, at any New York radio station.

that's my chorus! so awesome. i am going to go listen if i can. check out the radio chorus on the ypc website or the wnyc site.

[ 01.28.04 / 12:49 A EST] shotgun shuttle, java jacket

open mic was good, joe and i played the pixies cover and his song and then ann and i did three songs (including interstate!). casey played early on (i love that new song) and then did a song with danny at the end of the night, which sounded really nice. that bar is a cool place.

also tonight i met nathan of the moomaw collective, which is really just him.

i'm afraid i'm falling behind at work. i need to go early tomorrow and get some things done. which means sleep now!

zzzzzz.

[ 01.27.04 / 09:59 A EST] a clock where her stomach should be

dream i was running around in new orleans with ann. the sky was gray and ominous and it seemed like it was going to hurricane: the best new orleans weather. we were down by jackson square and there was this weird alcove where the church should be and you could climb up into it and it overlooked the ocean where the river should be.

tonight is danny kelly's open mic at bar matchless. it's in williamsburg, at manhattan and driggs. (why isn't there a brooklyn ave in manhattan? oh, the answer is simple...) see you there?

[ 01.26.04 / 01:51 A EST] cherry corpsicle

joe came over for dinner and we recorded some songs you can find them at yokokikuchi.com.

also over there is a new link to what's turning into a web design portfolio. i am so excited to be making websites for people. it is probably the most therapeutic thing i do.

[ 01.25.04 / 02:18 P EST] happy birthday nell!

i just woke up. today is my day to do whatever i want to. i am going to clean my room, go buy conditioner, get organized (in a lot of ways). not necessarily in that order. god damn, i really am a virgo!

it seems strange that my habits should be dictated by the position of the stars when my mother first squeezed me out into the world. i think instead that maybe i developed into a virgo, by reading about what i should be like, since i first became interested in astrology at age eight.

[ 01.25.04 / 03:45 A EST] i heard that

a. The point in the orbit of the moon or of an artificial satellite most distant from the center of the earth.
b. The point in an orbit most distant from the body being orbited.

[ 01.24.04 / 06:21 P EST] wax your asshole

just got in from the cheese on bread gucci model video shoot!
soooooo exciting. nan and i were front row freaky dancers. she wore a dress over jeans, her pussy power hoodie and that awesome rainbowy wig. i safety-pinned my old punk rock tights stuffed with fluff to my chest. long titties!!!

my mom and charles are having some sort of shindig tonight, which starts in a half hour. i'm gonna go see schwervon at sidewalk tonight. next week is their cd release for the new album yaaaay! i have my advance copy. it lives in my discman.

i love saturdays. weekends are usually so busy and no time to kick back. i like to be mellow.

[ 01.23.04 / 09:28 A EST] tenemos tamales pasteles

i had a dream that my voicemail was working only in spanish. and then the phone sort of fell apart in my hands like a toy.

after the good news of two days ago, i got home last night and charles told me that my mom had called and said that human resources is demanding that a week from today be my last day. some notice! the sole reason for this is that my mom is in the same department as me. but nothing's definite yet.

we got march 31 at the kf old office! setting up shows is so much fun. pantsuit, casey, josh and genan are playing too. whee!

[ 01.22.04 / 01:36 P EST] bodily anarchy

i had a gigantic cup of coffee this morning, and it's making me think of all these ideas. more on the ideas later. they involve an abstract extract event, coming this spring to a venue near you.

i listened to the barbara manning & the go-luckys cd you should know by now today. it isn't bad like i said it was, josh! the songs "time to b." and "goof on the roof" are really good. i bought the cd a year or so ago and i think maybe i was distracted or put off by the song called "never made love", or maybe the other barbara manning cds i purchased at the same time (which i also may re-evaluate).

also i was wondering, does anyone know when exactly leap year was put into effect? like, did people a thousand years ago have february 29th? it came into question on the telephone with nan.

1:50 P: okay, i looked it up. it appears that leap year (part of the gregorian calendar) was accepted sometime in the sixteenth century... look here. and did you know that in 1582, october 15th was the day after october 4th?

[ 01.21.04 / 04:10 P EST] zr-60

although it is not yet fully functional (and is too damn big for my screen resolution), nickandpeter.com is the coolest website i've ever seen. it features a clickable map involving a microscopic organism.

today we found out that our studio assistant / design librarian (cathy) has accepted a position in another department. thus i am promoted to INDEFINITE TEMP (for now!) these are glorious times! i am needed! my time will be structured! and yokos need structure! (hee)

the show at the middle east on monday! sooo many people came from school and otherwise. john looked terrific in his pink ethnic dress and green headwear (courtesy of san francisco thrift shopping). it complimented the gold pillared interior of the middle east upstairs perfectly! he trumpet-synched to the rio grande, and sang a new one about norwalk, connecticut. a magnificent set! i got the last few songs on video, including one which guest-featured andy mackenzie (a former member of the yummy cakes), whom we previously assumed was dead.

i got back from massachusetts yesterday around six-thirty. relaxed a bit, then went to see max play at sidewalk at ten. he is getting quite a following there. he played an awesome song about a girl and his college (sarah lawrence), and the one i like a lot that he didn't play last time (tell it to the judge). after the show i went over to nan's house. on the way i called and asked if i should bring anything? and she said, "well.. maybe.. a cookie." that was really cute. we had cookies and honey peach tea. and a good talk. yum!!!

a half hour left. oh, guess what i got in the mail today? hint: i lost the other one during the summer. i'm going to be fiercely protective of this one! rrroowwwrrrr!

[ 01.19.04 / 11:14 A EST] bean curd with pork and one crab rangoon

we left our leftovers from china river at nicole's house last night, after watching blind date. earlier we watched a disney channel teen movie called pixel perfect. nicole and i had walked all the way back from the 24 hour store when i realized my sprite was flat. so we went and exchanged it. earlier in the day i hung out with peter and mark at their place. they showed me things and gave me programs and pepsi. mark is learning to play the guitar. today i need to go to the atomic and get an iced mocha.

john just walked in the room and said "do you want to go to the atomic?" looks like it's settled! today is the big day.. john's show at the middle east. wheeeeee!

[ 01.17.04 / 10:22 P EST] beverly

in beverly, on justin's computer. downstairs from where we lived last year. todd kramer lived in this room then.

john and i went straight from the train station to nicole and rhea's house. nicole went to boston with kelly at eight. kelly was going to see yui and nicole was going to see lauren brunelle. justin came over and we all looked at rhea and nicole's sex book with penis drawings. then peter and mark came by and we all went to casa de lucca for dinner.

now it is almost ten thirty. what does the evening have in store for us? go check out mark's website, it is clearly amazing (be sure to click on supertree!) and there's a picture of me on it from vermont, at the snowmaker's pond.

[ 01.17.04 / 11:18 A EST] FUN FUN FUN

last night was way fun. thanks to everyone who came out! even if you missed dream bitches. the whole night was awesome..pantsuit and kansas state flower = wower! a night of amazing rockandrollingness y-aaaay! nan-ling, i love the french pop song. i feel privileged to have danced to its debut.

guess who else was there, but came late (missed my set, but i gave him a cd?) hint: he lives close by.

afterwards me, ann, john, josh, joe, jared and geoff (look at all those J-names! geoff is an honorary J) went out to CHINA TOWN. that means the cheap chinese place across from nan's house on houston! so delicious! ahh, MSG and fluorescent lighting, where would i be without you?

today john and i are going to massachusetts. whooooeeeeeeeeee.

[ 01.16.04 / 09:28 A EST] good morning manor-ettes!

last night was a crazy wild party, the EF "holiday" party that was postponed from early december. remember that? it was the same night as the luv-a-lot cd release party. man, that seems so recent! how the days fly. speaking of luv-a-lot, i made a website for them recently. check-that-shit-out.

so as of right now: cathy, mimi and i are the only ones here at the office so far. there is a big meeting in irvington today for the bosses. everyone is late because they are hung over. oh, brad and shirley just got here. it is going to be a nice, peaceful day. i'm going to try and get out early so i can go home and get ready for our parkside show tonight. yaaay!

[ 01.15.04 / 10:52 A EST] two nights ago dream

i was in a warm place, maybe mexico or florida or someplace tropical. there had been a lot of rain and the gutters were flooded. out of the gutter drain crawled an octopus. it was purpley-brown with some faint mottled white spots, and it more closely resembled a squid. it was crawling along the curbside when i noticed a baby octopus a few feet away from the mother, purplish-white and translucent and crawling around as well. just then a rodent (maybe a badger) showed up and started looking like it was going to attack the baby octopus. the mother noticed and crawled over to the baby at super-octopus speed and covered the baby octopus with her body.

i told this dream to ann on the subway. she said she was glad that i have nice dreams.

[ 01.14.04 / 09:40 A EST] happy burrefday / berseday josh!

today is joshee's birthday!!! he is 22. happy birthday! are you wearing your birthday t-shirt at school? the title of this entry is a reference to the way the cibo matto girls say birthday in that song 'birthday cake'. isn't that right?

tonight we're going out with allie to drink vodkey.

yesterday was the most fun rehearsal in the world at tu casa, an awesome rehearsal space on ave b! nan and i rocked it for an hour, going over 1-2-3 and i taught her fizzy drinks. then casey and josh showed up at eight and we went over it a bunch of times and it sounded great!!!!! i feel like i've never played with this many people before. it is fun! well i guess with ann singing too, that makes five of us, and black molly was a foursome. and we were always a bit under-rehearsed. i think it had something to do with hormones.

[ 01.13.04 / 04:25 P EST] grande iced coffee with sugar free vanilla

i was writing an email to peter and i remembered that in elementary school, since there was no permanent music teacher, a lot of freelance musician people would come into our classes, like, once every two weeks, or maybe once a month, to do folk and rock song sing-alongs. we got on the subject because peter wrote me an email about the doors, in response to what i said about horse latitudes. and i recalled that in first grade, the musician guy who was currently hired by the school would sing "light my fire" with us. i forget that guy's name, but a different year there was a woman named alice, who was a little more of a folksinger chick, and then for a few years (third, fourth and fifth grade) there was an english guy named huw (pronounced hugh). that guy did mostly beatles songs (they were very popular with us), and then a lot of anti war protest stuff, even some that he wrote with his wife. isn't that awesome?! i want to find these people and tell them how awesome they were/are. i never really thought about it before.

i should go back to PS3 and see if they need anybody to do that. maybe if i ever get my lazy ass moved out west i could hook myself up with a job at babeling's school. ha!

okay, i just found huw's website at huwgower.com. he has a lot of entries when you google search for him. i guess he was in a band called the records.

i'm a little bit overcaffeinated at the moment. raegan and i went on a big coffee run for the meeting downstairs. we had a bonding moment when we discovered we both used to think the wind chill factor was called the wind shield.

[ 01.13.04 / 02:28 P EST] i'll have one chocolate eskimo, please

Granted, I haven't gotten frozen yogurt in awhile, but today the chocolate sugar-free Eskimo Pie variety is unusually dark. Not just dark, but instead of its normal light brown "chocolate" color, it appears to be gray. Eyeing it suspiciously, I asked the man at the counter, "Is there something wrong with it?" He just smiled.

I got back to the office and asked my co-worker Mimi, "What color would you say this was, in Eileen Fisher colors?" (We have a complicated color naming system here.) She replied with a disgusted and accurate "Mushroom."

[ 01.13.04 / 10:22 A EST] kill yr guitarling darling

the rehearsal with ann and josh went so well!!! ann and i came up with some good harmonies. jared sat and played cell phone games and surfed the net. josh and i played ann the bassed-up rendition of the new song 'dream bitch'. too bad joshee had to leave at 7:30 to go see doug goetsch read at the telephone bar. he is a teacher at our high school. and now, so is josh. nutty! josh went out with his co-worker teachers (all in their twenties) to a bar the other night before he came over. he is learning the mysterious ways of teachers. ahh, i wish my high school experience had been more twisted. i'm sure it was and i didn't even know it.

it turns out (after emailing with allie) that the philosophy project was indeed a group of me, allie, adele and an asian girl named diane! at least we think that was her name. we invented a utopia and that's what the song was about. we had to have a paper on how our society would be run, too. says allie: "I actually found our proposal we did for that project for our 'ideal society' a few weeks ago-and it was so cool! So much of it was adherent to Socialist-Anarchist Principle. I was so proud of us!"
yay!

[ 01.12.04 / 04:23 P EST]

know what i've been listening to all day? tuscadero's "the pink album". i always sort of liked them, i got the cd in tenth grade. today i pulled it out on a whim.. every single song is fucking awesome!!! i think back then i thought it wasn't, like, dark enough, or something. i appreciate it much more now.

i have this vague memory of doing some kind of musical presentation in philosophy class in high school, involving a parody of their song "mount pleasant". i can't remember what the topic was.. i think adele was involved. oh wait, no, it was allie!!! or was it both of them? i should ask allie if she can remember.

ann and joshee are coming over after work. gotta get out of here so i can go home and ROCK

[ 01.12.04 / 01:01 P EST]

I don't know how this happened - it's 1 pm and to me it feels like 11.
Which is a good thing.

last night.. stayed up until at least three. chris and dashan came over and dashan and i worked on the site while chris took a nap. then we all went to that place on 43rd, the bread factory, and got coffee. and stayed there for at least two hours. we did some crayon drawings. hanging out with chris and dashan is fun because they both don't have school (for now) or jobs. it feels like lately when i hang out with people we're all so concerned about getting drunk, getting home, and sleeping! which isn't to say that isn't my favorite thing to do, but it was nice to have a change of pace. and listening to single boys talk about girls is exactly like listening to single girls talk about boys. or single boys talk about boys.

gonna grab me some lunch, and print some flyers. whee!

[ 01.11.04 / 09:07 P EST]

just now at dinner my mom had me recite two of the many things my dad had me memorize as a kid. one was the doors' horse latitudes, which by chance, my dad had me say just last week. the other was lewis carroll's jabberwocky. although i was seven and ten when i memorized them (respectively)... i haven't forgotten a single word. i'll remember them forever, yet i can barely remember the words to my own songs!

my mom and charles are watching sex and the city. dashan and chris are coming over soon to work on website stuff.

[ 01.10.04 / 09:33 P EST]

hello!!!

ann made an awesome flyer for the show, check it out on yerka music.

josh came over last night and we practiced our two songs. and then we went downtown and met casey for dinner at benny's burritos. yum! i thought i was having the biggest enchilada ever until i realized they put the rice and beans on the inside. so it was an enchil-rito. then casey and i went to the ANYWAY CAFE. lychee flavored vodka!!!! i hardly even had a hangover this morning. maybe vodka and i can be friends again.

john is back for a day now and we're going to go downtown soon. y-aaay!

[ 01.09.04 / 03:17 P EST]

hooray for multiple guestbook signage!!!!! nell, that is frickinhilarious. i just wrote nell an email about this, but, does anyone remember on the show life goes on, corky found a friend who was asian with down's syndrome? only his mother told him he was an angel. when he sees corky, he asks him, "ahh you uhh angel too?"

lisa franklin is in malaysia! and she visited my website. i wonder if it looks different over there. like, more spicy. the last time someone signed my guestbook from asia was when mike jha was teaching in korea... where is mike jha, anyway?

work time!

[ 01.08.04 / 01:12 P EST]

nan just called me!!! we have a two hour slot at a practice space on sixth street (tu casa) on tuesday night! that is super fun news! it's been so long since we jammed.

she was at pret a manger when she called and i inspired her to buy a yogurt cup. the same honey pot kind that i had this morning! it's the virgo connection! we are a couple of pax and pret corporate lunch honey pots. hmm.....

tonight matt is playing at some thing in chelsea with free wine and cheese. i am there. so there!

[ 01.08.04 / 10:28 A EST]

ahh 10:28, i am another day older.

yogurt is my best friend. i am glad i'm not allergic to anything. i used to be allergic to cats but now i am not allergic to ANYTHING! except for los angeles. but that's okay.

went to see casey play at sidewalk last night. he rocked it in pj pants!!! despite being a sicky. feel better casey!
after the show i met up with ann and jared and we went to kiev and i ate a kielbasy. that's how ann says it because her family's all eastern european and shit. funny because that's what kate and i have been calling it all along!

priorities: getting together with nan / josh / ann for rock and roll! putting new pictures on this thing. sleep.

[ 01.07.04 / 11:01 A EST]

i'm back at work making this list of things in this box. took a much needed coffee break. it is fricking freezing outside!

we went to see the movie the triplets of belleville yesterday. thanks ann and nell for telling me to see it! i really want the soundtrack.. if one exists.

from eating a lot of free food in california, john and i thought we had collectively gained 20 pounds.. but it turned out to be only 10. ha!

i miss the ling.

[ 01.07.04 / 01:15 A EST] New York, NY

back in new york! but we actually got back yesterday morning. tomorrow i have to go back to work. it is a very unpleasant business indeed.

i wanted to watch a video tonight but my mom and charles moved the vcr into their bedroom, making it impossible for me to ever watch any of the videos i own while they are home/sleeping. they replaced the living room vcr with their new dvd player. and i don't own any dvds. neither do they. as a matter of fact they don't own any videos, either. it is another messy situation.

i am not tired but sleep is required.

[ 01.04.04 / 11:47 P PST] San Francisco, CA

i am the last person awake and it feels like 3 am... maybe because babeling went to bed early for a change.

today we all drove to the pier area and ghirardelli square and got free caramel chocolate squares and paid a guy 50 cents to do a joe pesci impression. when we passed a muslim woman in a white burqa pushing a baby carriage, babeling said "look, it's the baby jesus!" hhhaaahahaha. then we drove to the top of a hill in marin county after sunset and ate leftover kettle corn in the cold air.

[ 01.04.04 / 11:34 A PST] San Francisco, CA

dream that i got adopted along with my brother who was a "special needs" child. the family had really wanted my brother, but they agreed to take me also, reluctantly. from the beginning all i did was get yelled at and break things accidentally. eventually i did something that the family really detested and they called the cops and had me arrested. they said "you're under arrest!" and then told me to meet them in the lobby so i would be taken to jail. in the elevator on the way down i devised all these plans of escape, which they predicted, so when i actually got off on the floor i was supposed to, there was no one there to meet me. and i just walked away. i think i was wearing a red skirt. i laid low and ran into ann and desiree, ann was having a party at her house but i can't remember if i went. or if that was even the same dream.

last night babeling was talking about monster princesses. i asked her if she knew any names of monster princesses. she said "pursa is one.. she always carries a purse." also, "another one is mrs. lee... she spells her name Y-E-S." she says "the monster princesses.. all they do is sit around all day and suck on their wands. all day long! and sometimes cook. and clean." and then she told me to watch out and not look at the wands, because i might turn into stone. only she said stoned.

[ 01.03.04 / 12:33 A PST] San Francisco, CA

today we went to the haight and went clothes and shoes shopping. john got an outrageous getup for his middle east show, and brand new roos shoes! brown. and i got some awesome threads. normally i would not say threads, but one of them is brown tweed, and for some reason i think it's acceptable to say threads when you mean brown tweed. but only then.

[ 01.01.04 / 11:26 P PST] San Francisco, CA

happy new year!!!

last night was craaazy, to say the least. yes, it was weird, bits and pieces are coming back to me, but mostly not. which is fine with me! we crashed at megan and eiso's house. quite literally!

today we all went to robert and nancy's for the annual sushi party. i overheard mick (my dad's best friend since third grade) telling john that one of his closest moments to stardom was the time he filled in for my dad's band's lead guitarist, the time they opened for janis joplin! i said, what? he never told me that! mick said "maybe he forgot.. he was on a lot of drugs". later i asked my dad and he said, "did we? oh... yeah, i guess we did! the 60's were one big psychedelic haze.." he did, however, remember drinking southern comfort with her. later on he told john that his band opened for the monkees too. what the hell! i don't think my dad remembers too many details about those days. you'd think he'd tell me these things.
